Review on Glengarry Castle Hotel
A fabulous setting above the shores of Loch Oich is a major selling point at this personally run, Victorian-baronial country house hidden away in 50 acres of thick wooded grounds, with the ruins of Glengarry Castle close by.
Inside, all is traditional, from the pine-panelled hall and portrait-festooned library to the elegantly appointed dining room. Dinner is a four-course affair with a soup or sorbet offered after starters of, say, warm oak-smoked salmon parcel filled with chive-scented scrambled eggs. Main courses are mainstream offerings that might range from baked fillet of sea bass with fennel and white wine sauce to roast duck breast with fresh berry compote and port jus, while cranachan makes a fine Scottish finale.
