Review on Malmaison
A recent addition to the nationwide Malmaison chain, this contemporary hotel aims to offer 'breathtaking Manhattan style' in a prime setting overlooking Princes Dock. Like its siblings, it scores heavily with a super-stylish brasserie that deals in flexible European food to suit all tastes.
Menus offer modern brasserie-style dishes along the lines of goats' cheese and smoked almond galette, then roast fillet of cod with Parma ham and vegetable broth or char-grilled duck breast with pommes sarladaise, choucroute and Banyulis reduction.
If you fancy something simpler, there might also be classic shrimp cocktail or the Mal burger with homemade relish and fries, while desserts could range from rum Baba and crème brûlée to feuilleté of figs poached in red wine with caramel ice cream.
