Review on Vanilla Pod
The Vanilla Pod occupies a small terraced Georgian building situated just a stone's throw from Marlow's High Street. Once inside you will see the tastefully decorated interior with its subtle but warm tones and subdued lighting. The restaurant is small and cosy, and is nearly always full so booking is essential.
The Vanilla Pod's success lies in the culinary flair of chef-patron Michael Macdonald who draws on his experience in Michelin-starred restaurants and former colleagues Gordon Ramsay and Eric Chavot to produce an exceptional modern English menu with a clear incline towards French influences. Every dish is exquisitely presented and the French waiting staff are very pleasant.
The seasonal menu changes on a monthly basis. One may start with ham hock, pistachio and foie gras terrine with compote of peppered apricots or perhaps ravioli of rabbit with Riesling onion velouté. This could be followed by pan-fried brill with Jerusalem artichoke sauce and asparagus or roast guinea fowl with wild mushrooms and morel cream or you might try the chef's special dish roasted scallops on red onions braised in red wine. There is also a seven-course gourmand menu at £45 per head.
