Review on Playhouse Bar & Kitchen at Nottingham Playhouse
Impressively fashioned from a Grade-II listed building in Nottingham Playhouse, the Playhouse Bar & Kitchen is one of the most upcoming restaurants in the Nottingham area. Aptly named for a theatre-based dining venue, it also refers to the fact that the structure was mainly constructed from cast concrete.
The whole complex now includes a restaurant, bar and deli, and it has a funky modern appeal with minimalist design, peacock blue and burnt orange colour schemes. An all-day grazing menu brings small bites, world tapas and salads, plus more substantial main plates, stone-baked pizzas and pasta. Typical choices might include crab, avocado and tomato cocktail, chorizo with olive crushed potatoes and gremolata, chicken satay with Thai noodles, and sea bream with basil risotto.
Fixed-price dinners have a more classic European flavour - think wild mushroom soup with black pepper sabayon followed by venison with braised red cabbage and celeriac purée, with mango parfait or hot chocolate brownie to finish.
