Review on Jabajak Vineyard Restaurant with Rooms
A highly attractive set-up, Jabajak is now a fully fledged country retreat and special-occasion venue, comprising a small luxury hotel, lounge bar and fine-dining restaurant situated in a tranquil vineyard close to the Carmarthenshire/Pembrokeshire border.
The hub of the place is a 150-year-old farmhouse, which now acts as the hotel. The adjoining carriage house, grain store and milking parlour have been cleverly transformed into the restaurant and bar (where you can sup real ales and wines from the surrounding vineyard). Upstairs, there's also a separate dining room (the Grain Store) used for private bashes.
Produce from Jabajak's gardens is bolstered by meat from local farms and fish from the Pembrokeshire and Gower day boats. The full menu is bursting with fresh Welsh and Mediterranean flavours: kick off with Preselli cheese bruschetta, marinated in a basil dressing and served with gooseberry and elderflower chutney. After that, perhaps, flash-fried queen scallops with sesame oil on a bed of mushrooms and spinach, a Celtic Pride steak, or Gower salt mash lamb chump with orange and cranberry sauce. Easy daytime menus offer simpler fare along the lines of salmon fishcakes or spaghetti bolognese.
