Mobile Food Guide Review of The Ostrich InnThe Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley both designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty are within striking distance of this lovely scenic pub in the middle of Newland village. It's a hostelry that is proud of is history as well as its location: records suggest it was originally used to house workers building the nearby medieval church. These days, the pub's reputation hinges on its convivial atmosphere, excellent selection of real ales and most important of all its food. You can eat steak and ale pie, salmon and spinach fishcakes or a proper ploughman's in the bar; alternatively, choose something a bit more ambitious from the full restaurant menu. Specials boards back up the regular choice, which might include ambitious offerings like pigeon and foie gras terrine with crabapple and sloe jelly, slow-roast spiced belly pork with pak choi and mash or suprκme of local chicken with apricot and smoked bacon stuffing and a red wine and pink peppercorn sauce. Finish off with say chocolate Amaretti pudding. Send us your opinion of The Ostrich Inn, Forest of DeanPlease give us your opinion of The Ostrich Inn. |
