Review on The Red Lion
The award winning Red Lion nestles in the rural hamlet of Knotty Green in the Chiltern countryside, just on the outskirts of the historic market town of Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire. The building can trace its history back to 1753 and comes complete with real log fires in the restored 19th century fireplace, a beer garden and a decked wooden terrace for dining al fresco. World famous author Enid Blyton used to live nearby, and the Red Lion has a unique snuggery dedicated to her containing some of her books and a gallery of original 1850's Noddy prints.
The kitchen serves traditional pub fare making excellent use of fresh seasonal ingredients from the local larder. Typical offerings on the menu include honey and mustard skewers amongst the starters, with main courses of beef stew and dumplings or their famous hearty potions of fish and chips. When it comes to desserts look for summer fruit cheesecake or a tasty traditional apple crumble.
