Review on Tudors at The White Hart Hotel
Located in the heart of St Albans opposite the Cathedral and Abbey, the Tudor Restaurant is set in the White Hotel, a charming 14th Century impeccably preserved coaching inn featuring a black and white timbered exterior. Inside the cosy restaurant with its oak log fire has attractive oak panelling, varnished floorboards and bared wooden candlelit tables set against tan leather chairs.
The kitchen showcases a blend of excellent British and Tudor cuisine that runs in tandem with the seasons using first-class local produce. Among the starters look for smooth chicken liver parfait served with fig and date chutney and rustic toast or maybe Scottish salmon and haddock fish cake, soft poached egg with rocket salad, warm pea puree and carrot oil. Follow on with a main course of pan seared sea bass set on char-grilled red peppers with Cromer crab risotto, herb oil and balsamic reduction or grilled rump of lamb and slow cooked shoulder, mashed potato, creamed spinach, woodland mushrooms and red wine jus. To finish consider the white Belgium chocolate cheese cake with dark velvet chocolate ice cream or the traditional sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and ice cream. There's a wide selection of wine to complement the food, together with real ales, lagers, spirits and cocktails.
The White Hart has 15 individually styled bedrooms should you decide to extend your stay and explore all that the area has to offer.
