Review on The Ingham Swan

The Ingham Swan set in the peaceful village of Ingham, just minutes from the sea makes the most of its location with splendid views over the Norfolk countryside. The picturesque building with a thatched roof was formerly a 14th century coaching inn, part of Ingham Priory until its destruction under Henry VIII in the 16th Century. Norfolk born and bred Chef patron, Daniel Smith has carefully restored and refurbished the building, creating a delightful blend of traditional character and contemporary design. Many of the original features including the bar and oak flooring with its striking slates tiles have been retained, there's rustic flint walls adorned with modern artwork, cosy inglenook fireplaces and a full complement of ancient beams.

Crowned the readers restaurant of the year for East England by Waitrose Good Food Guide 2015, freshness and quality are fundamental to the food Daniel serves, with seasonal ingredients carefully sourced from trusted local suppliers. Typically you might opt for a starter of seared rare beef with shaved parmesan and wild roquette salad truffle mayonnaise or fish lovers would enjoy the assiette of seafood consisting of warm smoked mackerel, salmon mousse, brown shrimp cocktail, fish cake and char grilled smoked salmon. Main courses usher in dishes in the shape of honey roasted breast of Gressingham duck with roast squash, Chinese cabbage, pancetta, roast new potatoes, St George mushrooms and red wine jus or pan fried halibut with chive risotto, diver caught scallops, buttered samphire and brown shrimp butter sauce. There are indulgent desserts to finish, witness dark chocolate nemesis with blood orange ice cream, and marinated strawberries or maybe baked vanilla cheesecake with mango sorbet, white chocolate cigar and pineapple ravioli.

There's ample choice of ales on offer including Wherry Bitter and Nelson's Revenge on tap, as well as an extensive selection of wines by the glass. The converted stables next door houses five fashionable ensuite bedrooms, should you wish to extend your stay and explore the local area.
