Review on One Canada Square Restaurant & Bar
For their latest venture, Tom and Ed Martin, the dynamic duo behind the burgeoning ETM Group have chosen the iconic One Canada Square skyscraper in Canary Wharf, the tallest building in the UK standing at 235 metres above ground level until 2010, when it was surpassed by The Shard at London Bridge.
One Canada Square Restaurant and Bar is located in the lofty lobby area of this 50 storey building and has interiors designed by renowned architects David Collins Studio with wood panelled walls, chequered table tops and Guatemalan and Italian marble. A staircase leads to the mezzanine with its own private bar and views over the elegant lobby, perfect for private dinners or parties. Friday nights and Saturdays, guests can enjoy the food to the accompaniment of the all white, baby-grand piano, where the in-house pianists will play a pleasing mix of old classic and pop music.
The kitchen proposes a modern European menu along the lines of venison carpaccio, crisp artichoke, rosemary and truffle from the Raw bar, or maybe choose a starter of crisp pig's trotter, pan fried quail's eggs, pea and lovage mousseline. Main courses usher in pan fried seabass, smoked bacon, broad beans, fregola pasta, and herb vinaigrette or carnivores would enjoy one of the 45 day aged Cumbrian Shorthorn steaks from the Grill or the double Herdwick lamb chop, devilled kidney, summer vegetable hash, apple and mint jelly. When it comes to desserts there's mascarpone and white chocolate cheesecake, raspberry honeycomb or the traditional apple pie served with custard is a favourite.
The extensive wine list to complement the food and the well-crafted cocktail list can be perused on the IPad provided.
