Review on The Jetty at Salcombe Harbour Hotel
The Salcombe Harbour Hotel, part of the well regarded Harbour group of Hotels re-opened in August 2013 following a multi-million pound refurbishment, which included the addition of a destination restaurant named The Jetty. The restaurant is overseen by acclaimed chef Alex Aitkin, former chef-patron of Michelin-starred Le Poussin in Brockenhurst and who currently runs The Jetty in Christchurch Harbour Hotel and The Kings Arms, also in Christchurch.
The stylish restaurant with its nautical theme, makes the most of its stunning location overlooking the natural beauty of Salcombe Estuary. Light and airy, The Jetty features floor to ceiling windows, and during summer months guests can sit on their sweeping terraces to enjoy the breathtaking views.
The kitchen plunders the local larder for dishes in the shape of scallops squid and chorizo, sautéed scallop with squid, chick peas and chorizo topped with rocket pesto or from the land choose sticky pork belly served with black pudding hash and soft poached egg and caramelized apple. Main courses pick up the theme with fried fillet of sea bream with lemon and thyme roast vegetables or quail pie, whole quail poached then stripped off the bone, baked in a delicate pie with chicken mousse and mushrooms. Close the show with a classic crème brulee paired with shortbread or salted caramel ice cream, honeycombe and banana.
The Salcombe Harbour Hotel has 50 elegantly appointed rooms, most with private balconies to take in the glorious vistas.
