Review on Sandemans Fine Dining Restaurant at Fonab Castle
Sandemans Fine Dining Restaurant is set in the fairytale Fonab Castle, complete with gables and turrets and serene views of Loch Faskally, this awesomely beautiful retreat is a gem among Perthshire's country house hotels. Originally built in 1892 for Lt Col George Glas Sandeman, founder of the famous Sandeman port and sherry business, it is now privately owned and opened in July 2013 as a luxury hotel. As well as their signature restaurant, there's the Fonab brasserie offering a more informal dining experience.
The kitchen makes excellent use of top-drawer regional ingredients for a choice of two taster menus, with options for wine pairings. Open your account with chef's amuse bouche, followed by seared hand dived scallops, squash puree and coriander cress, then a tasty wild girolle and summer truffle risotto with aged pecorino. Enjoy a main course of roast Angus beef fillet, buttered lobster, fondant potato and red wine jus, before finishing with a dessert of Valrhona dark chocolate fondant cherry ice cream and gel.
Just a short walk from the lovely highland town of Pitlochry, Fonab Castle has 42 stunning bedrooms should you decide to extend your visit and explore the glorious countryside.
