Review on Helix at The Gherkin
St Mary Axe stands 180m tall on the former site of the Baltic Exchange, an iconic London venue known affectionately as The Gherkin, designed by the world-renowned Lord Foster. Occupying the top three floors, it's home to London's highest private members club, as well as catering for corporate events and private functions and for the first tine in ten years has opened it's doors to the public for a number of limited dates. The restaurant offers the finest menus with a European slant and breathtaking 360° views over the City.
The menu plunders the modern repertoire, bringing on board dishes such as slow cooked beef cheek, butternut squash risotto and mustard or smoked mackerel, razor clam and lime foam amongst the starters. Follow on with lemongrass baked halibut, mussel, cucumber ketchup, radish and sea herbs or confit pork belly, langoustine, Jerusalem artichoke and burnt apple. Desserts are an enticing mix of flavours, witness a chocolate ganache, kumquat and sweet potato ice cream or Manjari crémeux, banana paired with salted peanut ice cream.
