Review on Anglo Restaurant
Anglo Restaurant is tucked away on St Cross Street, just off Leather Lane street market, an award winning restaurant that opened its doors in April 2016. It's the first solo venture from Mark Jarvis whose impressive CV includes Texture, Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons and more recently The Bingham in Richmond, Surrey. Inside it seats just 40 diners in a minimalist room that is flooded with natural light from the large front windows. Polished wooden tables are set on bare washed concrete flooring and it's illuminated by Tom Dixon pendant lights.
Jarvis together with his Head Chef Jack Cashmore ex-Sat Bains and Junior sous chef at Belgium's In De Wulf deliver a raft of tempting and innovative dishes that are artistically displayed on the plate. In the evening they offer a seven course tasting menu that can also be paired with wines. Typical dishes that appear could be clams and smoked bone marrow; cod with celeriac and lavender and meat fans will enjoy the wild red deer with fermented cabbage and juniper. To close the show there's fig and caramelised ricotta, Casa Luker chocolate and cheese and onion on malt loaf.
To match the food Anglo has a concise wine list with plenty of options available by the glass, as well as beers and ciders.
