Review on Ombu
Opened in Spring 2014, Ombu is a stylish tapas and cocktail bar that is owned by the same team as Forn de Sant Joan, a long standing fixture of the Palma dining scene since 1992. Centrally located opposite the lovely Plaza de la Reina fountain, the restaurant takes its name from the centenary tree located there. Decorated in a neutral palette, big wooden tables are set on cobblestoned flooring on the ground floor and first floor levels. Featuring a copper roof and stencilled walls, there's an open kitchen showing all the action of the chefs at work.
Ombu showcases a tempting menu of tapas style dishes ideal for sharing, and a perfect spot for al fresco dining during summer months. Meat fans will enjoy dishes in the shape of braised beef cheeks in homemade green curry or steak tartar with truffle, foie and sherry mayonnaise, while those who prefer seafood will opt for the mini cornet filled with tuna, wasabi and apple sour or octopus carpaccio with Thai foam. Desserts hit the button with passion fruit roll or an orange crème brûlée.
