Review on Hide Above
Five years in the making, Hide in Mayfair is the hotly anticipated restaurant from Michelin-starred chef Ollie Dabbous, which launched in April 2018 in partnership with Yevgeny Chichvarkin and Tatiana Fokina of Hedonism Wines. Spanning three floors, the beautiful interiors have been created by These White Walls Studio and Lustedgreen architects, who have taken inspiration from the leafy views of Green Park opposite the restaurant.
Featuring two restaurants, Ground is at street level and is open for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, while the fine dining restaurant called High Above is located on the second floor and offers guests a tasting menu and set lunch. Under the leadership of Head Chef Josh Angus, Ground will feature an à la carte menu and an open bakery serving freshly baked breads, cakes and pastries from Head Pastry Chef Zak Poulot
There's also a private dining room with private access from rooftop parking for diners who wish to remain incognito. A stunning sculptured laminated oak staircase designed by Atmos Studio links the two restaurants with the basement bar named Below, which will offer Hedonism's exclusive brands, alongside a cocktail menu from Ollie's business partner Oskar Kinberg.
Ollie will divide his time between the two restaurants and and in Hide Above he will present artfully displayed plates of finely executed seasonal British dishes. To accompany the food there's a majestic 400-bin wine list with an extensive option available by the glass, alongside the largest selection of half bottles in Europe. Oenophiles can also order fine wines via an ipad listing the 6,685 bottles available at Hedonism Wine shop, which can be delivered in under a quarter of an hour to the restaurant, charged at their retail price plus a £30 corkage fee. The restaurant was delighted to receive a Michelin star in the 2019 edition of the prestigious restaurant guide.
