Review on George & Dragon Hotel and Restaurant
The George & Dragon Hotel and Restaurant is set amongst the architectural splendour of the picturesque village of West Wycombe, that has been owned and maintained by the National Trust since 1929. A charming sprawling 17th-century coaching inn, it has been reopened by Chef Arnaud Stevens after a sympathetic refurbishment in keeping with the building's history. Currently operating the Plate Restaurant in Shoreditch, Arnaud has a fine pedigree, having spent several years cooking in top London venues such as Gordon Ramsey's Maze Grill, the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden and the Gherkin, before taking on the role of chef director at The Montcalm Hotel in Marylebone.
The kitchen makes the most of the abundant produce on its doorstep and works closely with trusted local suppliers. The carte runs with the seasons so you might begin with Dashwood Estate game terrine paired with apple chutney and toasted sourdough before a main course of whole roasted Seabass, clams and samphire, finishing with perhaps a chocolate fondant.
There's 10 delightful individually designed bedrooms should you wish to stay and explore the lovely surrounding countryside further.
