Review on East 59th
Adjacent to Japanese restaurant Issho on the third floor rooftop of the 165 million retail development at Victoria Gate, East 59th joins D&D's burgeoning group of restaurants that also has sites in Paris, New York and Tokyo. A 5,400 sq ft Manhattan-style rooftop bar and grill, named after their New York outpost Guastavino's, the glamorous interiors have been created by DesignLSM. Light and airy with large picture windows, the venue features colourful banquette seating and vibrant artwork decorating the walls. Seats on their terrace decked with lush greenery are at a premium offering panoramic views across the city.
The kitchen showcases a US inspired all-day grill menu along the lines of crispy fried squid with sweet chilli dip and lemon among the appetisers, or from the egg menu there's a classic Eggs Benedict served on sourdough toast with maple glazed bacon, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. East Burger is a 6oz brisket patty with lettuce, tomato, house sauce and skinny fries or there's main courses like baby back pork ribs or from the sea, seafood pappardelle, prawns, squid and creamy white sauce. Desserts bring on board sticky toffee pudding, butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream, as well as a crème brûlée with Bourbon poached fruit compote.
There's a comprehensive drinks menu, with signature cocktails, mocktails, bottled beers and ciders, alongside an excellent selection of Bourbon & Rye Whiskey and gin.
