Review on Norma
Norma launched in September 2019, the first independent restaurant from The Stafford London and Culinary Director, Ben Tish, who was the former Executive chef for the critically acclaimed Salt Yard group. The restaurant is set in a three storey townhouse on Charlotte Street in the heart of Fitzrovia, previously home to Brasserie Blanc.
At the front of the restaurant is a very smart Crudo Bar serving fresh seasonal raw seafood, leading into the ground floor dining room. The interiors have been created by Rosewood Design in a warm golden palette, with curved archways decorated with Moorish tiling and intimate booths featuring marble topped tables set with luxurious seating. There's a cocktail bar on the second floor and a top floor private dining space seating 12 guests.
Ben fuses the vibrant flavours of Southern Italy and Northern Africa, making excellent use of seasonal and sustainable Italian and British produce for a menu of small and large plates. Open the slate with smoked cods roe, molasses-grapes, pane carasau and charred onions or maybe a pasta dish of fresh strozzapreti, pork, anchovy and orange ragu with fresh mint. Among the large plates look for roasted whole Cornish mackerel, spices, almond dressing and rainbow chard or from the land, grilled Salt Marsh lamb with salt-baked carrots and beets, olives and mint sauce. Close the show with plum and rose water cake served with whipped mascarpone or brioche with salted caramel ice cream and bitter chocolate sauce.
There's a selection of Marsala wines together with signature cocktails like The Majolica, brandy ricotta, Cointreau, cherry liqueur and chocolate cherry ricotta cream.
