Review on The Greyhound Pub & Dining

The Greyhound Pub & Dining opened in December 2019 situated in the well-heeled market town of Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire, just 23 miles west of London on the A40. Set within a beautifully restored former 17th century coaching inn, it's the first solo venture from Daniel Crump and Margriet Vandezande-Crump, who have worked together in a number of critically acclaimed kitchens such as Michelin starred Petrus in Knightsbridge, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea, Trinity in Clapham, and more recently The Oxford Blue in Old Windsor.

They have collaborated with designer Ian Brice, incorporating modern design features whilst being sympathetic to the building's history. The main dining room is on the ground floor with sumptuous leather banquettes, while an upstairs bar area feels cosy with large leather sofas in front of a roaring fire.

Taking helm of the kitchen is chef Sean Norton. a semi-finalist on 'Masterchef The Professionals' in 2018, he has earned his culinary stripes in highly regarded restaurants such as Michelin starred Pied à Terre and L'Autre Pied, as well as The Frog. Sean produces a well-executed modern British menu that has been carefully designed to reflect the seasonality of fresh local produce. Among the starters look for the likes of pork belly, caramelised onion, hispi cabbage and pickles or from the sea there's south coast mackerel, celeriac, grape and caper. Main courses pick up of halibut, Jerusalem artichoke, mixed coastal herbs and chicken wings or Berkshire venison, mulled wine, pain d'épices and spiced pear. Desserts conclude proceedings with a classy flourish witness chocolate crémeux, mint ice-cream and coconut or date pudding, juniper salt caramel, yoghurt sorbet and buckwheat.

There's an excellent wine list to accompany the food with plenty of options available by the glass, and guests are assured of a warm welcome whether dining at The Greyhound, or just popping in for a leisurely drink.
