Review on The Glasshouse
The latest and brightest addition to the New Malden dining scene is the Glasshouse - a serious contemporary revamp of the old Railway pub. The idea was to bring a slice of French life (complete with a love of food and wine) and place it in the heart of a traditional English inn. It's all very amenable, very family-friendly.
The Glasshouse focuses on no-frills bistro-style food, with many ingredients imported direct from France. There's also a mouthwatering rotisserie, which delivers superb legs of lamb, ribs of beef and chickens. Highly affordable two-course lunch menus attract the crowds, and the repertoire is fleshed out with specials and hearty classics such as cote du boeuf.
The wine list puts France at the top of the pack and the value for money is excellent - thanks to a flat-rate mark-up of £10 on all bottles, regardless of their pedigree. Beer drinkers have a choice of up to five rotating real ales: microbreweries including Twickenham Fine ales and Hog Back Brewery get the red-carpet treatment, alongside Adnams, Deuchars, St Austell and other big players.
