Review on Olivo
Since 1990, this personally run neighbourhood restaurant has been satisfying locals and Victoria commuters with its robust food and colourful Mediterranean outlook. Many of its customers have become fervent regulars over the years and they value the place like an old friend.
The kitchen delivers regional Italian flavours with a strong Sardinian tilt and it proudly claims to have introduced bottarga (dried mullet roe) to Londoners: this salty speciality still shows up in a house special with spaghetti and a rich sauce loaded with Mascarpone. Elsewhere, authentic ingredients are used to good effect in dishes such as octopus salad with rocket, char-grilled beef with juniper berries, and rabbit with prosciutto and polenta, while desserts might range from pannacotta to chocolate and almond tart. The well-chosen all Italian wine naturally includes a generous fistful from Sardinia.
