Review on The Ivy Kensington Brasserie

Hot on the heels of the success of The Ivy Market Grill in Covent Garden, The Ivy Chelsea Garden on King's Road and the Ivy Café in Marylebone, Richard Caring of Caprice Holdings has opened The Ivy Kensington Brasserie. A short walk from the Royal Albert Hall and Kensington Palace, the restaurant is located in Kensington Pavilion, an exclusive business member's club.

The interiors have been designed by the acclaimed Martin Brudnizki Design Studio featuring an impressive antique pewter bar and brass studded vintage-style green bar stools. The sophisticated setting has leather banquettes, brass light fittings and walls displaying artwork from the Great Exhibition held in 1851. A 10 cover table perfect for small parties is set on a raised platform overlooking the restaurant.

Offering an all-day eating experience with flexibility as its hallmark, it encompasses breakfast, elevenses, lunch, afternoon tea, weekend brunch, cocktails, light snacks, and dinner. The kitchen works its way through dishes such as crispy warm duck salad with spice dressing on pak choi, beansprout and ginger salad or seared scallops, truffle creamed potato, lambs lettuce, parmesan crisp and grated truffle amongst the starters. When it comes to main courses, fish fans will enjoy the line caught grilled swordfish, chimichurri dressing, lemon and rocket while meat fanciers might choose a succulent steak or the slow roasted lamb shoulder with soft parmesan polenta, roasted peppers, olives and rosemary sauce. As a finale, consider melting chocolate bombe with milk foam, vanilla ice cream and honeycomb centre with hot salted caramel sauce or poached strawberries, vanilla ice cream shortcake, crème Chantilly and baked meringue.

The wine list showcases a great collection from across the globe, together with a well crafted cocktail menu and craft beers such as Meantime Pilsner.
