Review on Powderkeg

Powderkeg, a popular neighbourhood bar was relaunched under the ownership of Jayke Mangion and Andy Bell of Clapham Leisure at the end of September 2017, located on tree-lined St. John's Hill in Battersea. The interiors have been created by Kai Design with booths and bar seating, or you can dine more formally in the lovely conservatory filled with Victorian artefacts.

Former senior sous chef at the Salt Yard Group's Opera Tavern Ben Mulock is in charge of the kitchen, and he proposes a seasonal menu with a focus on sharing plates, together with chargrilled, dry-aged and smoked meat and fish. Typical options for sharing include burrata paired with house focaccia, peas and truffle dressing as well as charred octopus with herbed white beans and preserved peppers. Larger plates for sharing or as a main course include 9oz Essex Shorthorn with fine bean and shallot salad, horseradish and mustard butter. There's also a nice choice of bar snacks, Iberico ham and other Spanish titbits are supplied by Brindisa, alongside artisanal cheeses and tasty little pizzettes.

There's an extensive wine list that roams the globe together with British craft beers, tempting cocktails and a comprehensive gin and tonic menu.
