Review on Bistro Vadouvan
Bistro Vadouvan is a welcome addition to Putney's dining scene, located on the Wharf overlooking the River Thames, it takes its name from a blend of spices. The restaurant is co-owned by chef Durga Misra whose Michelin-starred background has seen him working alongside high profile names such as Eric Chavot, Joel Antunes and Pascal Proyart, together with Uttam Tripathy the patron and maître d' at the Potli in Hammersmith.
A bright modern décor featuring a big open kitchen, walls are lined with eye-catching electric blue banquettes and wooden tables are set on quarry tiled flooring. When the sun shines there's al fresco dining on the piazza to take in the views of the river.
Durga presents a modern French menu which subtly blends spices from the Orient for dishes along the lines of prawn, crab and cucumber salad, fresh crab salad with yuzu, mint and orange dressing, followed by a main course of lamb and merguez winter warmer, slow cooked shoulder of lamb, tahini yoghurt and Yemeni zough or from the sea Cornish seabass, celeriac hummus, spiced cauliflower, parsley and lemon confit. Desserts bring on board an exotic cheesecake with passion fruit creameux or you might prefer the specially selected British Neal's Yard cheeses reflecting French classics.
