Review on Arlo's Battersea
Having established their reputation with Arlo's in Balham, two years later in 2018 a second venue opened on bustling Northcote Road in Battersea, just a five minute walk from Clapham Junction and Clapham Common. Tom McNeile, the former Managing Director of the cookery school chain L'atelier des Chefs is the brains behind the restaurants, and he aims to deliver unusual and affordable cuts of steak to diners.
The kitchen draws on supplies from traditional grass-fed native breeds sourced directly from British farms in Yorkshire, Northern Ireland and the Scottish Highlands. Bavette is their cheapest and signature steak, a classic butcher's steak and France's favourite cut, it's juicy, full of flavour with a fantastic texture. An alternative is the 350g 21 day dry-aged, thick-cut, juicy prime ribeye served with your choice of sauce such as béarnaise, burning bear, chimichurrie or black peppercorn. When it comes to desserts there's crowd-pleasing options like an ice cream Eton Mess, raspberry-rippled mascarpone and meringue with passion fruit, liquefied fresh mint and and vanilla ice cream or a warm chocolate brownie, freshly made in house daily, served with a scoop of ice cream and a dark chocolate sauce. There's also vegetarian and vegan options and children are made welcome with their own menu.
The concise wine list features their own excellent red the Great House Malbec, together with cocktails, alongside cold pressed juices, milkshakes, fresh fruit smoothies and their very fine coffee beans.
