Review on Xier
Unveiled in February 2019, Xier is the first solo project from chef Carlo Scotto who honed his culinary skills alongside Angela Hartnett in Michelin-starred Murano, Galvin La Chapelle and Babbo in Mayfair where he held the position of Head Chef. Located on Thayer Street in Marylebone which links Oxford Street and St Christopher's Place with Marylebone High Street, the restaurant is set over two floors. The ground floor space XR offers casual dining with a lunch and dinner menu, while the elegant first-floor dining room will only be open in the evenings serving a 10-course tasting menu.
Scotto presents modern European cuisine with global influences reflecting his travels around Europe and Asia and his Italian background. The menus are underpinned with high quality ingredients with much of the produce sourced from the award-winning Rhug Estate Organic Farm in north Wales. Typical examples from the ever-changing compendium of dishes might be red prawn crudo, raspberry, red caviar and yuzu or Red Mullet, spring onion, burnt aubergine, carrots and red pepper gel or rose cured salmon, foie gras, rhubarb and Bramley apple. The kitchen also pleases meat-eaters with the likes of beef cheek, rainbow chard, bone marrow, peas, apple and date purée or pigeon, beetroot, foie gras, purple potato and hazelnut crumble. Sweet temptations might include chocolate tart, lime jelly and vanilla ice cream or mango pavlova paired with ginger Chantilly and mango sorbet.
A walk-in wine cellar offers an excellent selection of handpicked wine and the sommeliers are on hand to recommend the perfect wine to complement your food choice.
