Review on Waterside Bistro & Bar
The Waterside Bistro & Bar occupies an enviable position next to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in the small town of Shipley, north of Bradford. Housed in a 150 year old warehouse, this family owned restaurant since 2016 has not only grabbed the attention of food critics, but has been named Best Restaurant in Bradford 2018 at the British Restaurant Awards, together with a Good Food Award for 2019 and a LUX Culinary Excellence Award for British Cuisine in Yorkshire 2017.
Chef patron is Paul Hutchinson who cut his teeth in critically acclaimed restaurants such as Marco Pierre White at The Criterion, before heading to Le Jules Verne restaurant in the Eiffel Tower, followed by a secondment to Le Louis XV in Monaco. He delivers a repertoire of stylishly presented and attractive modern dishes based around first-class local ingredients.
The carte runs with the seasons and diners can expect starters along the lines of sautéed wild mushrooms, mushroom ketchup, pigeon sauce with pigeon breast or maybe haddock and salmon fishcake. Main courses pick up on their highly recommended venison duo, venison and Yorkshire gin stew, poached and butter roasted venison, braised cabbage and crispy shallots or from the sea roasted halibut, potato gratin, buttered samphire and saffon mussel sauce. Be sure to leave room for one of Paul's delicious desserts such as the chocolate and cherry fondant or the Waterside rhubarb and custard, rhubarb cheesecake, confit of rhubarb and rhubarb gel.
Guests can also pop in for a glass of wine or cup of coffee, and it's good to know that the Waterside Bistro & Bar is dog friendly as well.
