Review on Davies and Brook at Claridge's
Davies and Brook restaurant was unveiled in December 2019, situated in the iconic Claridge's hotel that can trace its history back to 1812, it has become synonymous with luxurious living, big reputations and royalty. The debut UK restaurant from acclaimed Swiss-born chef Daniel Humm, who has held for seven years three prestigious Michelin stars, together with numerous other awards for his renowned Eleven Madison Park in New York, returns to the hotel where at the age of 15 he worked as a commis chef.
Taking its name from the two streets that Claridge's sits on, it occupies the space that formerly housed Simon Rogan's Fera restaurant. The interiors have been redesigned by architect Brad Cloepfil, founder of Allied Works paying homage to the history of the room. A high-ceilinged restaurant with an elegant and understated décor featuring Irish cast crystal colonnades and silver grey velvet banquettes, pale walls are adorned with individually framed landscape photographs taken in the south of Iceland by American artist Roni Horn. A chic central bar serves creative cocktails curated by Leo Robitschek.
Executive Chef is Dmitri Magi, who was chef de cuisine at Eleven Madison Park, and he presents an a la carte menu where guests are advised to choose both a cold and warm starter to proceed their main course. There's also the option for all of the table to take the delicious seven course tasting menu. Open proceedings with foie gras, torchon with cocoa and quince before moving on to a warm starter of lightly cooked bass with black garlic and turnips. When it comes to main courses you might opt for their signature dry-aged duck glazed with honey and lavender with beetroot and sauce civet, or from the sea John Dory poached with porcini ragu, garlic and pine nuts.
To accompany the food there's a vast wine list, knowledgeably compiled with options available by the bottle, half bottle, carafe and glass.
