Review on The Fulling Mill Bar & Bistro
Formerly known as The Glass House, The Fulling Mill Bar & Bistro is without doubt a a really fascinating place. The restaurant occupies a cleverly restored fifteenth-century Grade-II listed mill complete with its original working weir, millrace and machinery. An impressive oak framework has been introduced to provide an intriguing space on four different levels plus a dazzling glass frontage. Diners can sit, unwind and watch the interplay of light on the architecture and artefacts.
Lunch tends to be a simple affair aimed primarily at families and tourists, but the kitchen flexes its muscles for dinner. The menu is blend of well-loved British classics such as The Fulling Mill fish pie with peas and more modern dishes with a European accent. Smoked haddock and pea risotto, parmesan crisp and rocket is a typical starter, while main courses could take in anything from grilled 8oz sirloin steak, field mushrooms, home battered onion rings, cherry tomatoes and fat chips to pancetta rolled chicken breast stuffed with feta & spinach, fondant potato, warm bacon and baby onions, truffle cream.
