Devon's small-scale food producers were trailblazers in the 'real food' revolution and business is booming. There are more new-wave local cheeses to be savoured here than anywhere else in England. Also look out for cider and wine, along with traditional breeds of livestock and local specialities like Dittisham plums.

The south coast is famous for its fish: crabs from Start Bay, River Dart oysters, Brixham mussels, sea bass and more. Restaurants snap up what they can before the big boys get their hands on the catch.
