Review on Queen's Head Inn & Restaurant
The Queen’s Head has been dispensing hospitality since the sixteenth century and there are still echoes of the past in its rough oak beams, flagstone floors and handsomely panelled walls.
All manner of produce from the Lake District’s fruitful larder finds its way into the kitchen, from slow-maturing Herdwick lamb and traditionally cured Waberthwaite hams to organic trout from Esthwaite Water and pheasant from Graythwaite Estate. Among starters, you might be tempted by pear and Roquefort salad or chicken liver pâté spiked with Tequila, while main courses could take in anything from Cumberland sausage with mash and white onion sauce to slow-roast lamb with rosemary sauce. A separate daily fish menu lists a few more exotic items like roast orange tilapia with ginger and lemon butter, while desserts are mostly simple offerings like cherry and chocolate cheesecake.
