Review on Riverside House Hotel
The Riverside House in the picture-postcard village of Ashford-in-the-Water is a charming ivy-clad building, located in the heart of the magnificent surroundings of the Peak District by the banks of the River Wye. Within this stunning Georgian mansion you can relax in the warm and cosy ambience of the hotel and enjoy carefully crafted Anglo-French food in the Riverside Room fine-dining restaurant.
Fish from the river and game from nearby Chatsworth Estate show up on the regularly changing menu, which might kick off with, say, a terrine of confit organic chicken, baby artichoke, piquillo peppers and a salad of girolles. This may be followed by pan-roasted fillet of Derbyshire beef, macaire potatoes, creamed leeks and shallots, before desserts such as white chocolate and passion fruit croustade with malted milk ice cream.
In addition to the sumptuous restaurant, the Riverside House also offers the Conservatory Room for an alternative, slightly less formal option. The well-spread international wine list has a good showing of half bottles.
