Review on Hassop Hall
The grand Hassop Estate can trace its roots back to the Domesday Book, although the present hall dates mostly from the seventeenth century. It stands in lovely grounds some three miles from Bakewell and is ideally placed as a basecamp if you are trekking the Peak District.
Long-standing owners the Chapman family have preserved many of the building's original features, including intricate stucco ceilings, polished stone flags and oil paintings in ornate gilded frames.
There are lovely views of the garden and the valley from the bay windows of the dining room, where traditional British classics and international favourites make up the lion's share of the menu. Think chicken and avocado salad, poached salmon, grilled fillet steak, roast lamb and chocolate mousse.
