Review on Casey's of Baltimore
Casey’s has kept on growing ever since the owners started out as innkeepers more than 20 years ago. Today, this distinctive dark-green building overlooking Baltimore’s natural harbour now functions as a hotel, conference and wedding venue, restaurant and traditional Irish pub (complete with open fires and live music sessions).
Spanking fresh seafood (much of it caught by Michael Casey) is the star of the show in the airy restaurant overlooking the water. Mussels are from the family’s own beds on Roaring Water Bay and the seasonal haul could also include crabs, lobsters, scallops, prawns and other piscine delights. Everything is treated with a refreshingly simple touch.
Bowls of Casey’s chowder are big sellers and the blackboard might also list home-pickled herrings with lemon dressing, grilled whole black sole and the like. Away from the sea, there’s generally something for meat fans and vegetarians, while those with a sweet tooth might be satisfied by a helping of apple pie.
