Review on Kings Head
A peaceful setting by the banks of the meandering River Yare is just the ticket for visitors who want to head out of Norwich and chill in a genuine village pub (complete with heavy timbers and bulging walls). The Kings Head has been providing sustenance and all the rest for more than 300 years, and it's been given a boost of late thanks to landlord Anton Wimmer and his kitchen team. They were the proud recipients of the Good Pub Guide Norfolk Dining Pub of the Year 2019 award.
The interior has been lightened up and there's a great deal of global intent on a menu that roams far and wide for Peruvian escabeche of whitebait with chilli, coriander and red onion; spiced Moroccan chicken breast; crispy pork belly with spiced Puy lentils and Asian greens – not to mention braised oxtail with horseradish dumplings for those who like a lovin' spoonful of comfort with their food.
Peach Melba, boozy apricot trifle or hot chocolate fondant with Mascarpone and Kirsch cherries are some of the desserts you are likely to find. Add to the mix some prime East Anglian real ales and an awesome collection of wine by the glass, and you have a recipe for success.
