Review on Yorks at Ikon

Yorks at Ikon, formerly known as Café Opus is a casual venue attached to Birmingham's premier contemporary art gallery on the corner of fashionable Brindleyplace. The gallery itself is restored Victorian Gothic, in sharp contrast to the clean modern lines of the ground-floor café - which is something of an oasis of calm away from the hubbub of the city centre.

The food here is unpretentious, affordable and features British classics such as beans on toast or truffled mushrooms, sage and garlic roasted mushrooms on sourdough with truffle oil. If you want something more filling, go for Brando's burger, chargrilled beef pattie, burger sauce, cheese, shredded lettuce, onion or tomato or a slice of one of their stone based pizzas. The menu also has a series of small plates such as Travellers Lamb, slow cooked lambs leg in a world spanning fusion of spices or there's the house meatballs and harissa sauce.

There's a concise wine list to complement food available by the glass as well as the bottle, cocktails and craft beers and there are tables outside for al fresco dining.
