Review on China Garden
A stark black frontage marks out China Garden, a highly popular and rather fashionable Chinese restaurant on a street corner within strolling distance of Brighton seafront. Over the years it has become something of a local institution and it keeps rolling on.
Dim sum are highly regarded and it’s worth arriving early if you fancy some lunchtime nibbles on Saturday or Sunday when the place gets packed out. During the day, expect the place to be crowded with local Chinese, tucking into all manner of authentic morsels, from steamed prawn and vegetable dumplings to crispy wun tuns and sticky rice in lotus leaves.
Once night falls, westerners fill the vast dining room and order from a menu that provides plenty of safe, familiar options along the lines of sesame prawn toasts, barbecued spare ribs, aromatic crispy duck, lemon chicken and so forth.
Service is noticeably attentive and, to cap it all, there’s even a pianist to add a touch of glamour to proceedings.
