Review on The Kingfisher Bistro

A converted mill by Carlingford heritage centre is the setting for Mark and Claire Woods' well-established and bustling little restaurant. Inside, a cosy, laid-back mood prevails, catchy music plays and Mark goes about his culinary business in a pint-sized, open-to-view kitchen.

Menus show a great deal of creative intent, witness a signature dish of Thai-spiced pork with sticky rice, curry oil, sweet soy and Asian salad. Elsewhere, expect anything from fillet of brill with pea risotto to sirloin steak with rφsti, garlic butter and onion sauce. Desserts tend to be straightforward offerings such as apple strudel. Prices are very reasonable, and the food is supported by a decent list of affordable wines.
