Poogan's Porch, nestled in the heart of historic downtown Charleston, has been a "must eat" establishment since it opened in 1976. Celebrities, politicians, tourists and locals stop by the "Home of Southern Hospitality" to enjoy the Low country/Southern Cuisine. We specialize in creole, jambalaya, gumbo, she crab soup, local seafood, quail, alligator, fried chicken and the best peanut butter pie, guaranteed. By 1976, the character of the neighborhood had changed suitably to allow the conversion of the house into a restaurant. The owners sold their home and moved away. A little dog stayed behind. His name was Poogan. From his perch he greeted customers. Poogan passed in '79. This building is his monument.
