Review on Woods Bar & Dining Room
Woods Bar & Dining Room a very popular pub and restaurant situated on the edge of Exmoor in the rural town of Dulverton, has once again scooped the Somerset Pub of the Year 2013 award. Inside you are greeted by a cosy open log fire with the bar area split from the dining area by rustic wooden partitions.
The kitchen looks toward locally sourced and seasonal ingredients including Gloucester Old Spot Pork and free range chickens provided by owner Paddy Groves from his Northcombe Farm. Dishes showcase modern British cooking with French influences, witness a starter of beef breasola with baby gherkins, parmesan, olives sun blushed tomatoes and mustard ice cream or cured gravadlax, smoked salmon tartare and lightly cured pan fried fillet of trout with horseradish and almond sauce. Main courses pick up the theme with pan fried fillet of stone bass, seared squid and tiger prawns on tomato and potato stew with steamed courgette and creamed white wine sauce or crisp confit duck leg and roast breast with fondant potato, curly kale, Chantenay carrots, confit garlic and port wine sauce. There are a line-up of desserts to finish including coffee pannacotta with chocolate chip cookie and pistachio ice cream or maybe lemon tart with blood orange posset, iced lime parfait and Pimms and Elderflower sorbet.
The wine list is a cracker knowledgeably garnered from every corner of the world and all are available by the glass.
