Restaurant 56 is the showpiece restaurant of Sudbury House, a Grade II listed building set in nine acres of beautiful grounds in the charming market town of Faringdon, located on the edge of the Cotswolds between Oxford and Swindon. The light and airy restaurant has an elegant décor whilst retaining its traditional character and overlooks the picturesque landscaped garden. It's a fitting setting for Executive Chef Andrew Scott, who joins the restaurant from The Curlew Restaurant in East Sussex, where he gained his first prestigious Michelin star in the 2014 Guide.
The kitchen delivers accomplished, sharp modern dishes using carefully sourced local and seasonal ingredients. Open your account with grilled fillet of mackerel, parsley and horseradish crust, beetroot salad, caviar and white balsamic or pigeon carpaccio, white truffle custard, Madeira jelly and salt baked Jerusalem artichokes. Main courses pick up the theme with fillet of English rose veal, butternut and sage, sweetbread cannelloni and winter chanterelles or cured sous vide cod loin, shrimp and potato risotto, charred leeks and crab bisque sauce. Prettily displayed desserts close the show, witness lemon curd cream, verbena jelly, pine nut ice cream, and meringues or rhubarb cannelloni cheesecake, pistachio, stem ginger paired with Advocaat ice cream
