Review on Read's
Read's restaurant is beautifully positioned in its own grounds on the edge of Faversham, a Georgian manor house that provides a delightful base to explore the garden of England. This is where Chef David Pitchford follows the seasons with his dishes calling upon local suppliers for fresh fish, meat and game. Herbs and vegetables are grown in the manor's very own walled kitchen garden.
Proceedings may begin with a plate of thinly sliced Langhirano Parma ham with caramelised fresh figs, rocket salad and Reggiano parmesan followed by, perhaps, a pan fried fillet of wild locally caught sea bass on a bed of Mediterranean vegetable cous-cous with a cherry tomato sauce. Look out for Read's traditional deep lemon tart with an orange compote and their own lemon verbena sorbet among the puddings. The wine list is a majestic tome featuring some serious first growths from Bordeaux.
