Review on Glasson Village Restaurant
A 20-year-old veteran of the local scene, Michael Brooks' country restaurant occupies the shell of a one-time RIC barracks on the edge of the village. Over the years, it has become one of the most reputable venues in the area, with a deserved reputation - especially for seafood.
Oysters and lobsters are kept live in the fish tank, and the choice of piscine offerings might run to seared scallops with garlic butter, balsamic reduction and crispy leeks or grilled fillet of Clare Island organic salmon with peas, bacon and tarragon cream.
Menus change with the seasons and the kitchen makes use of everything from local beef and lamb to roast pheasant on bacon and nutmeg spatzle with thyme and redcurrant sauce or boneless quail with wild mushroom risotto stuffing, braised red cabbage and Madeira sauce. Sunday lunch is a rumbustious family occasion.
