Review on The Willow Room at The Bull
The Willow room is the fine dining restaurant at the 16th century Bull pub in the picturesque country village of Great Totham in Essex. Named after the ancient willow in the garden, the elegant, contemporary restaurant overlooks the pretty lavender-filled gardens with views of the rolling green fields beyond.
The kitchen runs in tandem with the seasons, ingredients are sourced from top local producers, with the kitchen foraging from local hedgerows and fields, as well as using produce from their own herb garden. Look for locally shot pigeon breast with Puy lentil salad or Maldon oyster tempura with oriental salad and a honey, lime and soya dressing amongst the starters. Main courses follow with a trio of beef, pan-seared fillet, braised shin and pressed cheek with cauliflower purée, sautéed spinach, mushroom compote and jus or maybe pan-seared sea bass with petit pois à la française. Delectable desserts close the show with a light plum infused sponge with poached pear jelly, star anise ice cream and lemon purée or chocolate marquise with a bitter kumquat jelly, blood orange salad and chocolate caramel tuile.
The wine list brings together some great wines from around the globe and the service is assured and welcoming, adding to the whole dining experience.
