Review on Culloden Estate & Spa, Vespers
Originally built as the official palace for the Bishops of Down, this baronial Victorian mansion stands in 12 acres of beautifully secluded gardens and grounds overlooking Belfast Lough and the Antrim coastline.
Formal meals are served in the Vespers restaurant, a smartly attired dining room with an air of Gothic elegance and a pianist on hand to serenade diners in the evening. Irish produce shows up well on the menu, which might include pan-fried scallops, loin of lamb and desserts such as poached white peach in a brandy snap basket.
Alternatively, visit the Cultra Inn set in the hotel grounds, where you can get hearty food throughout the day and relish the propect of watching live Six Nations rugby on the big screen.
