Review on Rocpool Reserve, Chez Roux
Chez Roux was legendary chef Albert Roux's first venture north of the border and has now been joined by a further two restaurants located in Gullane and Lochinver. Situated in a beautifully renovated Georgian mansion in the centre of Inverness, this luxurious boutique hotel offers stunning views over the River Ness and is just a few minutes walk from Inverness Castle. Condé Nast Johansen awarded it their Most Excellent City Hotel in the UK in 2008 and 2011 and the Scottish Hotel Awards made Chez Roux their Newcomer Restaurant and City Hotel 2010.
The menu that is overseen by Albert Roux offers classic hearty French fare that makes good use of excellent local Scottish produce wherever possible. The à la carte menu has a wide range of dishes that could include mussels cooked with a light curry sauce and cream or gruyere and cheddar cheese soufflé among the starters. Follow on with skate wing with nut-brown butter, capers and croutons or Scottish rib eye with béarnaise sauce and fresh chipped potatoes. Desserts tempt with Albert Roux's classic glazed lemon tart with raspberry sauce or shortbread with poached pears and bourdaloue sauce. There is a well presented wine list and the impeccable service and attention to detail makes a fine dining experience in this elegant venue.
