Review on Samphire
Fomerly known as Ormer, it has now morphed into a new restaurant called Samphire located in the Jersey town of St Helier. The three storey building has undergone a £1.4 million refurbishment programme, designed by celebrated interior architect Martin Brudnizki whose work includes restaurants such as Le Caprice and Corrigan's Mayfair. The venue is as sleekly groomed as can be with silk wallpapers, distressed oak panelling and luxurious bespoke furniture.
The ground floor houses the restaurant with a covered terrace for al fresco dining, there's a glamorous second floor private dining room and the roof garden features an oasis of overgrown plants, where diners can enjoy a relaxing cigar from the Ormer humidor.
The kitchen has built up special relationships with trusted local suppliers and menus are designed around high quality seasonal ingredients. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but guests are also welcome to pop in for a leisurely drink at the bar. From the à la carte menu you might choose a starter of Jersey lobster, ravioli, scallops, ginger, coriander, crab, tomato bisque and puffed black rice before a main course of lamb shoulder, loin, breads, minted spring vegetables, Goat cheese and honeycomb. While desserts are picture pretty assemblages such as popcorn brownie, milk ice cream and salt caramel or rhubarb soufflé, mascarpone ice cream and poached rhubarb.
Their Head Sommelier will expertly guide you through their 200-bin wine list, knowledgeably garnered from vintners in the best growing regions of the world.
