Review on Maxi's
Raymond Wong opened Maxi's right in the centre of Leeds some 13 years ago and it remains one of the liveliest and most friendly Chinese restaurants in the city.
The menu is a real monster, covering hundreds of dishes, most from the Cantonese and Pekinese tradition, plus a few other regional ideas added for good measure. You could make a great lunch from the long list of dim sum, which spans everything from familiar steamed sui mai (pork and crab dumplings) and spare ribs in black bean sauce to more esoteric offerings like salt meat croquettes, pickled chicken's feet and deep-fried custard buns.
For a full meal, delve into the rest of the menu, which has a host of appetisers such as sesame prawn toasts and aromatic crispy lamb with pancakes, followed by Hong Kong-style roast duck, chicken with seasonal greens, lobster with ginger and spring onion and much more besides. Maxi's Express is a buffet-style operation in the city's Light Shopping Centre, and there's a Rotisserie on Kirkgate Market; there are also restaurants in York and Marley, near Keighley.
