Review on The Devonshire Arms
An imposing eighteenth-century hunting lodge overlooking Long Sutton village green is now the setting for this rather grand gastropub-cum-restaurant. Behind the many-gabled stone façade, visitors will discover a pleasantly hospitable bar and dining room done out in contemporary style with sturdy wooden tables, wood floors and plush leather sofas.
Lunch is a straightforward affair, with robust offerings such as smoked chicken sandwiches, ploughman's, fish stew and char-grilled beef salad as mainstays of the menu. Dinner is much more ambitious, taking in - say - crab crème brûlée with fennel salad, confit of duck with sweet potatoes, orange and star anise sauce and desserts ranging from chocolate parfait with Griottine cherries to rhubarb mousse with hazelnut shortbread.
